Video Veterinary Consults – Our latest coronavirus measures

Veterinary video consults

We understand that you may feel uneasy at the moment – we feel the same. We would like you to know that we are still keen to continue to take care of your pets health, whilst taking into consideration the current government restrictions on movement and social contact.

We are only seeing urgent and emergency cases face to face. This is to prevent as much contact as possible for your and our own health. To provide as much of our service as possible we will be using video and telephone consultations. We are using these initially, for all except emergency cases, to decide if your pet is in need of a face to face consultation.

We are also running these video veterinary consults for other less urgent cases that still need veterinary attention. This is to avoid unnecessary human contact and enable you to comply with social distancing regulations. Where needed we can prescribe and dispense medication on the basis of these video consults.

Video veterinary consults will be charged at our normal consultation rate. Should your pet then need to come in for a face to face examination the consultation fee for that will be covered by the consultation fee paid for the telephone or video consultation. If you cannot use video consult software then we can offer you a phone consultation instead. However we would advise using video software where possible, this will allow for a video distance examination of your animal.

Video consults process.

We are currently testing out different apps and software for our video consults. We still have not yet found the best one, but at present are generally using Zoom. If you would like a video consult please phone reception on 01702 545558. They will take the details of your case and discuss it with a vet, if needed they will then book you in for a video consult with one of our vets. The receptionist will then call you back with advice, if appropriate a time for the consultation and will take payment for the consultation. One of our vets will then either call you on the phone or send you a link by email or text to join the video consult.

Because an animal needs to be under our care we can only provide video and telephone consults for clients and animals who are already registered with the practice.

Making the most of your video consults:

To make the most out of your video consult there are several steps to take before it starts.

  1. Make sure all background noises are at a minimum – turn off radios and TVs and avoid noisy kitchen appliances.
  2. Have good lighting, this helps us to better evaluate your animal. Although avoid having a strong light source behind you and your pet.
  3. Please make sure your pet is ready and in the room with you ! – You may need a spare person to help if they are particularly wiggly!
  4. A good internet connection is important too and ideally have a second person handling the phone or using the laptop.

If possible it is also helpful to send one or two good quality and well lit photos of the problem (if a visible one) to Office@rochfordvets.co.uk, prior to any consultation.

Remember we are here to help your pets. If you have any concerns then just call on 01702 545558.
